The AfCFTA sensitization training in Lower Eastern Kenya marked a significant milestone in empowering women entrepreneurs, bringing together 54 dynamic exporters from Makueni, Kitui, and Machakos counties. Held in Machakos, this transformative session provided women with the knowledge and strategies needed to tap into the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and expand their businesses beyond Kenya’s borders.

Setting the stage for impactful discussions, KNCCI Machakos Chapter Chairman Onesmus Mutungi warmly welcomed participants, reinforcing the Chamber’s commitment to fostering inclusive trade. KNCCI Lower Eastern Regional Director Mutavi Kithu underscored the critical role of equipping women with essential tools, networks, and insights to navigate regional and continental markets successfully.

At the heart of the conversation was the role of women in driving economic growth. KNCCI Women in Business (WIB) Chair Director Zainabu Mohamed delivered a powerful address, shedding light on persistent challenges such as market access, financing, and trade policies. She emphasized that the training was designed to provide practical, actionable strategies to help women exporters maximize the benefits of AfCFTA.

A key highlight of the session was the introduction of Isoko, a cutting-edge digital platform facilitating market linkages across Africa. Participants were eager to explore how Isoko could unlock new trade frontiers, with many expressing appreciation for the invaluable insights gained.

By breaking barriers and unlocking opportunities, this initiative is not just about business expansion—it’s about empowering women to take their place at the forefront of intra-African trade. As these women step onto the continental stage, they carry with them the potential to transform their businesses, communities, and the future of trade in Africa.
