Big strides in regional collaboration!
KNCCI President, Dr. Erick Rutto had the pleasure of meeting Mr. John Lual Akol Akol, the newly elected Chairman of the East African Business Council (EABC). Mr. Akol, who also serves as the Vice President of the South Sudan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and an Executive Member of the ICGLR – Private Sector Forum (ICGLR-PSF), brought a wealth of insight and enthusiasm to the discussion.
The conversation was centered on the critical need to work together in addressing non-tariff barriers that continue to impede trade within the East African Community (EAC) and the ICGLR, exploring the potential for boosting investment within East Africa by encouraging countries in the region to prioritize investing in one another.
Mr. Akol shared exciting investment opportunities available in South Sudan, highlighting several key sectors:
• Oil: Opportunities in oil transportation, exploration, and rig operations.
• Infrastructure: Development of roads, buildings, and ICT.
• Trade of Commodities: Expanding the market for Kenyan goods in South Sudan.
• Energy: Green energy, hydroelectric projects, and solar energy solutions.
• Manufacturing: Establishing cement factories and food processing facilities, particularly for mangoes.
Mr. Akol commited to fostering collaboration and his vision for a more integrated East African economy. To further this partnership, Dr. Rutto extended an invitation to Mr. Akol to take part in the WCF Africa Summit 2025 in April, urging him to support efforts to engage the World Chambers Federation (WCF) within the EAC.
