A 10-member delegation from Malawi, under the Malawi Food Systems Resilience Program (FSRP), paid a courtesy call to the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI). The visit was part of a one-week program aimed at exploring trade opportunities, challenges, and cooperative management between Kenya and Malawi.

Cooperatives have long been recognized as a driving force for socio-economic development. Speaking on behalf of the Chamber President, KNCCI Director Cynthia Kamau emphasized the importance of cooperatives in promoting sustainable development. She stated, “Cooperatives are vital for fostering sustainable growth, and at KNCCI, we are committed to exploring areas of mutual interest and removing barriers to collaboration.”

Mr. Ted Nakhmiwa expressed Malawi’s interest in benchmarking Kenya’s cooperative movement to enhance the implementation of the second window of their matching grant initiative. This initiative targets secondary cooperatives, focusing on product aggregation and processing.

Key Highlights of the Visit:

  1. Exploration of new markets through collaboration and partnerships.
  2. Strengthening trade relations between Kenya and Malawi.
  3. Enhancing market access and linkages for both countries.
  4. Fostering exchange visits to deepen cooperation.
