Accomapnied by the National Director Mr David Mpatiany, the Chamber President Dr. Erick Rutto paid a courtesy call to the Cabinet Secretary MSMEs and Cooperatives, Dr. Wycliffe Oparanya, EGH who was accompanied by the Principal Secretary State Department for MSMEs Hon Susan Mang’eni. The discussion centered on potential areas of collaboration to support MSMEs.

The Chamber President raised key concerns, including the lack of access to markets, affordable financing, and the need for better skills to make MSMEs globally competitive. In response, CS Oparanya invited the Chamber President to participate in a Private Sector Roundtable on September 25, 2024, to discuss how the government and private sector can work together more effectively and in a coordinated manner. The CS also announced plans for an MSME survey and called on the private sector, particularly KNCCI, to collaborate in this initiative to gather valuable insights on MSME challenges and opportunities across the country.

Both the CS and PS  Hon Susan Mange’ni reiterated their commitment to working with the Chamber through existing programs such as KJET, SAFER, and NYOTA, which target MSME development in Kenya. To ensure the collaboration’s success, it was agreed that a technical team will be formed to coordinate efforts between the Ministry and KNCCI, focusing on addressing the key issues facing MSMEs and driving their growth in a sustainable manner.
