The Women in Business Chairlady Zainab Mohamed together with representatives from KNCCi among them, Chairman Busia county Silvanus Abungu, Vice Chair Busia Mr. Musala, Vice Chair Kakamega, WIB Director Busia Ms. Salome , WIB Director Kakamega Ms. Silvia and several Women directors from the Western region attended a very colourful launch ceremony for the ‘Empower her county program’ at Masinde Muliro University in Kakamega.

This is a program powered by the office of the Women rights advisor to the president and Absa bank in partnership with KNCCI and Africa Guarantee Fund to help women start and improve their Businesses, by offering entrepreneurship development and financial literacy to small and medium sized Enterprises.

Among the distinguished guests were, Hon. Harriet Chiggai, Women rights Advisor to the President. 1st Lady of Kakamega Prof. Janet Barassa. Joshua Obengele from Africa Guarantee Fund and Elizabeth Wasuna of ABSA bank.

The First Lady of Kakamega welcomed the delegation and made a commitment to support the initiative. Mr. Joshua of AGF spoke about lack of customized products for women. He also said training women is needed to increase their bankability. Currently women are 2% bankable and there is need to improve that through training. He informed that in January of 2021, AGF and ADB committed 2 billion dollars for empowering women in business.

Hon. Harriet Chiggai urged the women to work together and form cooperatives so as to get funding from organizations such as KDC. Training of the Women begins tomorrow.
