A Brazilian trade delegation is currently engaging in a business-to-business mission in Kenya at Villa Rosa Kempinski, aimed at boosting Kenyan exports to Brazil in an effort to address the prevailing trade imbalance between the two nations. The mission, which concludes tomorrow, features representatives from diverse sectors including building and construction, interiors and decoration, electrical cables, food and beverages, FMCG, agricultural and farm products, automotive and spare parts, clothing and footwear, and health and beauty products.
During the event, the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Brazil in Nairobi, Minister Adriana Telles Ribeiro, highlighted Kenya’s potential as an agricultural powerhouse. She emphasized the strategic advantage provided by Kenya Airways’ flights to Brazil, facilitating the transportation of perishable commodities between the two countries.
In a significant development, the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the São Paulo Chamber of Commerce (SPCC). This agreement is aimed at fostering business interactions between Brazilian and foreign enterprises through exports, imports, joint ventures, and investments. The MoU, overseen by KNCCI Director Mr. Stephen Mbugua and SPCC Special Advisor for Foreign Affairs Mr. Maurício Manfré, is intended to facilitate contacts between companies from both nations.
Furthermore, to enhance exports from Kenya to Brazil, KNCCI also inked an MoU with the Brazilian Council of Importing and Exporting Commercial Companies (CECIEx). This organization’s mission is to advocate for and represent the interests of exporting and importing commercial entities, traders, and foreign trade service providers. The agreement was overseen by KNCCI Director Mr. Stephen Mbugua and CECIEx President Mrs. Damaris Eugenia Avila da Costa.
Mr. Michael Mandu, Secretary for Trade, commended the KNCCI, SPCC, and CECIEx for their commitment to these MoUs, which aim to rectify the trade imbalance between Kenya and Brazil while promoting the private sectors within both countries.
