Kenya’s Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are unlocking new trade opportunities, thanks to the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), and TradeMark Africa.

At a high-impact sensitisation workshop held at Voyager Resort, 54 SMEs from Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, Taita Taveta, and Kwale counties gathered to learn how to leverage e-commerce and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) for business expansion.

Key Takeaways from the Workshop:

Digital Trade Readiness: SMEs gained firsthand knowledge on how to use the Isoko E-Commerce platform to access markets across Africa.

Immediate Business Impact: 20 businesses were successfully onboarded onto the platform, setting the stage for seamless cross-border transactions.

Expert-Led Insights: The workshop featured discussions on export strategies, trade regulations, and digital solutions, ensuring SMEs are equipped to compete in the AfCFTA framework.

Leadership & Collaboration

The event was graced by key KNCCI leadership, including:

  • Mr. Shakir Swaleh – KNCCI National Director for the Coast Region
  • Mr. Ahmed Farah – KNCCI CEO
  • Mr. Jamal Abud – Mombasa KNCCI Chair

Their presence reaffirmed the commitment of KNCCI, KAM, and TradeMark Africa to supporting SMEs in navigating the evolving trade landscape.

What This Means for SMEs

With the AfCFTA opening up a $3.4 trillion market, Kenyan businesses now have an unprecedented opportunity to scale beyond borders. E-commerce is the future of trade, and platforms like Isoko will bridge the gap between local enterprises and the broader African market.

The Way Forward

This workshop is just the beginning. KNCCI, KAM, and TradeMark Africa will continue working closely with SMEs to ensure they have the tools, knowledge, and networks needed to thrive in the digital economy.
