A two-day meeting convened by the International Conference on Great Lakes Region-Private Sector Fourum(ICGLR-PSF) kicked off today, aimed at developing a strategic roadmap to enhance regional trade integration. The event, chaired by Dr. Eric Rutto, the Chamber President and ICGLR-PSF Chair, brought together representatives from 12 member states: Angola, Congo DRC, Congo Brazzaville, Central African Republic, Zambia, Burundi, Rwanda, North Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Kenya.
The meeting, held in Nairobi, Kenya, was attended by key stakeholders, including officials from the Office of the Special Envoy and Advisor to the President of Kenya, Hon. Charles Keter, ambassadors from ICGLR countries, Ministry of Foreign Affairs representatives led by Ambassador Masila, a representative from development partner Trade Mark Africa, and private sector players from financial institutions.
The primary objective of the gathering is to formulate a comprehensive strategy that will facilitate seamless trade flows within the region. By addressing trade barriers, improving infrastructure, and fostering a conducive business environment, the ICGLR aims to unlock the region’s economic potential and elevate the standard of living for its citizens.
The outcomes of this meeting are expected to have a significant impact on the economic growth and development of the Great Lakes Region. By strengthening regional cooperation and integration, the ICGLR can position itself as a major economic powerhouse in Africa.
