KNCCI President Dr. Erick Rutto, accompanied by KNCCI Director Central Rift Region David Mpatiany, KNCCI South Rift Director Stanley Baskwony and Nakuru Chapter Chairman Said Ali and the Chapter Board, held broad deliberations with H.E Susan Kihika, EGH, Governor of Nakuru, and her county government on areas of partnership and collaboration.

H.E Susan Kihika, EGH, warmly welcomed Dr. Erick .K. Rutto, and the delegation to her office noting that the Chamber of Commerce plays an integral role in the business community of Nakuru, the city is 3rd in GDP contribution to Kenya’s economy after Nairobi and Kiambu County.

The Governor expressed her delight in the level of expertise and resources within KNCCI Nakuru Chapter, pledging to tap into it, for service to the business community in the County Boards.

KNCCI President Dr. Erick Rutto highlighted the strength of KNCCI, and together, drive economic growth in the County of Nakuru. He spoke to KNCCI’s trade promotion and networking opportunities, local and international Linkages, Policy, and Advocacy .He appealed to the Governor to unveil an economic stimuli for the manufacturing sector. He also highlighted the pending bills for suppliers to the county government and requested payment in a timely manner.

The Nakuru County Chapter requested an allocation to the leather value chain in the newly unveiled market in Naivasha and spoke of the dual allocation of slots in the market, locking out other traders. They also requested a KNCCI license to be included in the unified license for traders for payment alongside the other county charges. In conclusion, H.E. Susan Kihika, EGH, advised that Ksh50M had been allocated to the Enterprise fund that will have oversight by the County Department of Trade.

On pending bills, evaluation of the Ksh1.2bn the County owed has been underway, and Ksh200M has been verified for payment. She warmly welcomed the partnership and collaboration and called for enhanced relations with her government. She also proposed quarterly meetings to review and align on key issues affecting the business community.

In the immediate, there will be sector based forums between the County Government and KNCCI Nakuru Chapter that will start being held alongside other county events and forums that will be jointly planned.
